Outdoor Guides
Lead Guide: Bruce Hamilton
Bruce is an AMGA Certified Top-rope Site Manager and has been guiding mountaineering, rock and ice climbing in Colorado since 1980. He has over 100 first ascents and has summited numerous peaks in the United States and Peru.
In addition to his outdoor experience, Bruce has taught science and math in local schools for over 25 years. His love for teaching and the mountains make him an engaging guide and resource for aspiring climbers and mountaineers.
His personal philosophy of guiding can be summed up in his words: “Judgment and knowledge are the most important aspects of climbing.”
Guide: Joe Groshong
Joe learned mountaineering skills from Bruce Hamilton, CityROCK's lead guide 10 years ago and has been a student of climbing ever since. He is a PCIA top rope site and single pitch instructor. He recently left his engineering job of 17 years with HP to pursue running CityROCK with his wife Lara and to work with Bruce in their outdoor guiding program.
Joe loves working with both adult and youth climbers with equal enthusiasm but he holds a special place in his heart for working with "at risk" youth. He has a passion for being outside whether it is climbing at a local crag, guiding clients, mountaineering or sailing across some ocean.
Guide: Matt
Guide: Tim
Tim has been climbing since he was 16, and guided in Joshua Tree, CA in College. He is a certified single pitch guide through PCGI. Tim works part time in engineering and geeks out on the physics of anchors and climbing dynamics. He really likes teaching and helping people enjoy and improve on their climbing, and teaches classes both in and out of the climbing gym. He is an overall outdoorsy guy, spending his free time mountain biking, kayaking, and cross country skiing (although he likes climbing the best).
