Introduction to Outdoor Climbing Course
For those just getting acquainted with the outdoor side of climbing this course will help with the transition. During course climbers will learn the basics of outdoor climbing, including the knots, safety equipment, and belay systems. Climbers will learn about outdoor climbing etiquette as well as do some fun climbing.
Prerequisites: None.
Top-roping and Top Rope Anchors Course
This course is essential for outdoor beginners. The ability to build safe, reliable anchors is a skill that will be important in every style of outdoor climbing. During this course climbers will learn the principles of building anchors and practice their skills by building a multitude of anchors for themselves. This course will also cover other important topics including safety issues related to operating in cliff top environments, rappelling outdoors, using a top rope outdoors, and ethics and etiquette related to outdoor climbing.
Prerequisites: Climbers should be comfortable belaying, tying in, and putting on their harness without assistance.
Sport Climbing Course
For climbers who are looking to move beyond top roping or just want to move their indoor leading skills to the outdoors, this is the course. This course will cover topics related to fully bolted climbs including the difference between different types of bolts, bolted anchors, and how to safely lead bolt-protected routes outdoors.
In addition you will learn how to assess bolt reliability, lead belay safely, and clean bolt-protected routes.
Prerequisites: Climbers should be comfortable belaying, tying in, and putting on their harness without assistance.
Traditional Climbing Course
This course is designed for climbers who've wanted to do the climbs between the-bolt protected faces or those who want to move beyond top roping. During this course climbers will learn about traditional climbing gear such as nuts, cams, and hexes and also learn how to place that gear to protect themselves on climbs not protected by bolts. Climbers will also learn about traditional climbing anchors and how to belay from them.
Prerequisites: Climbers should be comfortable belaying, tying in, and putting on their harness without assistance.
Multi-pitch Climbing Course
This course is designed for climbers who have some experience lead climbing and are looking to get a little higher. This is a great course for those looking to do alpine rock climbing to reach mountain summits or those interested in big wall climbs. During this course climbers will learn how to lead climbs more than one pitch, how to protect the second climber as well as themselves, and other issues related to climbs more than a rope length above the ground.
Prerequisites: Climbers should be comfortable leading 5.6 on traditionally protected climbs as well as lead belaying, tying in, and putting on a harness without assistance.
Ice Climbing Course
For those ready to enter the frozen world of ice climbing this course offers a great introduction. During this course climbers will learn about ice climbing equipment, tips and tricks to manage the cold, and ice climbing techniques.
Includes: All ice climbing equipment. Climbers should be prepared with their own cold weather equipment including water resistant outer layers and insulating inner layers. No cotton!
Prerequisites: Climbers should be comfortable belaying, tying in, and putting on their harness without assistance.
Summer Climbing Classes
Are you longing to get out on some real rock but are afraid of getting yourself and/or your friends killed, maimed, hurt, stuck, or even just into an unnecessarily unpleasant or embarrassing situation? CityRock is here to help.
Outside 101
This class will get you climbing outside. You will learn to rappel inside CityRock before heading out for a half day on the rock. In addition to climbing, you will also learn the ethics and etiquette of being an outdoor climber.
Prerequisites: CityRock certified to top rope belay.
Day/Time: Fri 6-8pm, Sat 9am-1pm (Days/times subject to change)

Outside 201
Our Outdoor 201 class is designed to help preserve both climber and crag. From area specific concerns about wet sandstone, to bolt evaluation and basic anchor setup, this class covers important information every climber should know before climbing on their own.
Prerequisites:CityRock certified to lead and lead belay. Don't know how to lead? Take our "Learn to Lead"
class.
Day/Time: 6 hour class
Cost: $69/person

Learn to Lead
Learn the basics in a 2.5 hour class that will teach you the techniques you need to practice becoming an effective lead climber and belayer.
Prerequisites:CityRock certified to top rope belay.
Day/Time: Tuesdays from 6-8pm
Cost: $45/person
