Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I hire a guide?
Climbing has a steep learning curve, with serious consequences for mistakes. By hiring a guide as opposed to learning from a friend or on your own you can be sure that you're with someone there solely for your safety and enjoyment. Through training and experience a guide will be able to assess your comfort and ability so they can provide you with the most enjoyable trip without compromising safety.
Is outdoor climbing safe?
Climbing has inherent risks, which is part of what makes it appealing. Without these risks the activity would lose some of what makes it fun. The job of a guide is to provide you with as safe and enjoyable of a trip as possible. Our guides are selected largely on this ability to manage risk and maintain safety.
Should I tip my guide?
If you feel that your guide has done a good job, tipping is a customary way of showing that. Guides will never complain about receiving any tip amount but you can use amounts in other service industries as a reference.
What is the trip/course cancellation policy?
A 25% deposit is required to reserve a trip or course and then payment in full is required the day before the trip or course begins. Cancellations more than fifteen days from the scheduled date of your trip or course are fully refundable. Cancellations within fifteen days will receive all but the deposit and cancellations within three days of the trip or course will be non-refundable. Custom guiding can be rescheduled up to three days before the start of your course or trip. All trips that operate on a scheduled basis cannot be rescheduled.
What should I bring to my trip/course?
Many of our trips do not require you bring any gear except personal things like water, snacks, and appropriate clothing. After you book a trip or course you will have a gear list sent to you with recommendations and things that are optional. Many times the online description will tell you what you need.
